Beyond the ebb and flow of the tides lies a vision of a future where humanity and the ocean coexist.
In the summer of 2026, the historic Open Port district of Incheon will once again become a meeting place for photographers from around the world. Celebrating its 9th edition, the Incheon Open Port International Photography Festival presents this year's theme, Beyond the Tide, inviting audiences to reflect on the relationship between humanity, the ocean, and the changing world.
Rooted in Incheon's identity as a maritime city, this year's festival goes beyond the appreciation of beautiful landscapes. Through the universal language of photography, it responds to some of the most pressing challenges of our time, including climate change, marine pollution, and the loss of biodiversity.
The tides continuously ebb and flow. Beyond these powerful currents, we seek a vision of a sustainable future in which humanity and nature coexist. This year's festival features seven major exhibitions alongside a variety of educational and cultural programs.
The main exhibition, International Photography Exchange Exhibition – Ocean and Environment, brings together photographers from 11 countries—Korea, China, Italy, Spain, Indonesia, Vietnam, Greece, Malaysia, Ukraine, Romania, and Croatia. Their works reveal both the magnificence of nature and the urgent realities of the climate crisis. Korean photographer Cho Sunhee joins the exhibition, offering audiences an opportunity to experience contemporary environmental photography from around the world.
The Incheon World University Photography Festival – Identity of Photography explores the evolving nature of photography through the experimental works of professors and students from universities worldwide, encouraging audiences to reconsider the medium's identity and limitless possibilities.
Linked Countries: Yellow Sea Photography Exhibition presents the works of five Korean photographers who document the Yellow Sea through salt fields, tidal flats, coastal dunes, marine debris, and coastal landscapes. Their diverse perspectives ultimately converge into a shared narrative about the sea and our collective future.
Narration of Incheon documents the city's evolving landscapes and everyday places, revealing the historical layers that continue to shape Incheon today.
Contemporary Chinese Photography Exchange Exhibition introduces works by photographers from Guizhou Province, offering intimate perspectives on contemporary Chinese society, landscapes, and daily life.
The Open Ports in the Glover Albums revisits Jemulpo (present-day Incheon) during Korea's opening-port era through the rare photographic albums of Thomas Blake Glover and Robert Bennet, providing valuable historical insights into the city's early modern history.
Finally, Breath of the Planet: From the Polar Oceans presents photographs captured by researchers from the Korea Polar Research Institute, revealing the breathtaking beauty and ecological significance of Earth's polar regions.
Visitors may also participate in a range of special programs, including wet collodion photography workshops, portfolio reviews, and other interactive events that encourage dialogue between artists and audiences.
Photography is a universal language that transcends borders and generations. This festival creates a space where artists and audiences from different cultures can meet, exchange ideas, and reflect together on the values humanity shares through the sea.
At the same time, the festival strengthens Incheon's position as an international center for photographic art, enriches the local cultural ecosystem, and contributes to the city's growth as a vibrant cultural and tourism destination.
The tides never cease, and the sea is always with us.
We warmly invite you to look Beyond the Tide and imagine a future of coexistence. Join us in Incheon during the summer of 2026 to experience inspiring photography, meaningful dialogue, and unforgettable moments of reflection.
