바다는 시각적 모티프뿐만 아니라 우리 환경의 상태를 반영하는 살아있는 유기체로서, 언제나 제 삶과 작업의 중심에 존재해 왔습니다. 저는 사진을 통해 바다와 풀라 시의 관계를 탐구하며, 종종 눈에 띄지 않은 채 남아있는 인간의 영향이 남긴 미묘한 흔적들에 초점을 맞춥니다. 이 이미지들은 오염, 침식, 그리고 자연과 일상생활 사이의 취약한 균형에 대해 조용히 이야기합니다.

환경 문제를 직접적이거나 극적인 방식으로 기록하기보다는, 사진을 통해 사색과 감정적 몰입을 위한 공간을 만들고자 합니다. 바다는 우리의 집단적 책임의 거울이자 돌봄과 방치 모두를 목격한 증인이 됩니다. 내년 페스티벌 주제의 맥락에서, 제 작업은 관람객들로 하여금 해양 환경과 자신들의 개인적인 관계를 재고하도록 초대합니다.

저에게 사진은 인식을 위한 도구입니다. 즉, 속도를 늦추고 표면 아래에서 실제로 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 진정으로 바라보는 방법입니다. 바다를 관찰함으로써, 우리는 궁극적으로 우리 자신과 우리가 만들어가고 있는 미래를 관찰하게 됩니다.

The sea has always been a central presence in my life and work, not only as a visual motif but as a living organism that reflects the state of our environment. Through my photographs, I explore the relationship between the sea and the city of Pula, focusing on subtle traces of human impact that often remain unnoticed. These images speak quietly about pollution, erosion, and the fragile balance between nature and everyday life.

Rather than documenting environmental issues in a direct or dramatic way, I use photography to create space for contemplation and emotional engagement. The sea becomes a mirror of our collective responsibility and a witness to both care and neglect. In the context of next year’s festival theme, my work invites viewers to reconsider their personal relationship with the marine environment.

Photography, for me, is a tool for awareness — a way to slow down and truly see what is happening beneath the surface. By observing the sea, we are ultimately observing ourselves and the future we are shaping.

하산 압델가니(Hassan Abdelghani)는 순수 미술 사진작가이자 풀라(Pula)에 위치한 사진 갤러리 '마키나(Makina)'의 디렉터입니다. 그는 지금까지 크로아티아와 해외에서 수많은 사진전을 기획하고 개최해 왔습니다. 1965년 오시예크(Osijek)에서 태어나 카이로에서 자랐으며, 코펜하겐에서 20년 동안 거주했습니다. 1990년 코펜하겐에서 사진학 연구를 마쳤고, 이후 1998년 그곳에 사립 사진 학교인 '글로벌 포토스콜레(Global Fotoskole)'를 설립했습니다. 그는 다수의 예술 프로젝트를 이끌어왔는데, 50회 이상의 전시를 큐레이팅했고 오시예크의 사진 갤러리 '브라타 스타로그 그라다(Vrata starog grada)'의 예술 감독을 역임했으며, 전 세계에서 50회 이상의 개인전 및 그룹 사진전을 열었습니다. 또한 오시예크 미술 아카데미의 객원 강사이기도 합니다. 2015년부터는 마키나 사진 아카데미(Makina Photo Academy)의 대표를 맡고 있습니다. 2009년부터 현재까지 그가 갤러리 마키나의 디렉터로 재직하는 동안, 이 갤러리는 200회 이상의 전시와 행사를 자랑스럽게 개최해 왔습니다. 그는 크로아티아 영화감독협회(HDFD), 이스트리아 미술가협회(HDLU Istria), 오시예크 미술가협회(HDLU Osijek)의 회원이며, 유럽 영화 아카데미(European Film Academy)의 회원입니다. 문화, 예술, 현대 사진 및 교육적 공헌을 인정받아 풀라 시 헌장(City of Pula Charter)을 수상하기도 했습니다. 그의 사진 작품들은 자그레브 공예미술관(Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb)의 소장품('원거리에서[From a Distance]') 및 마드리드의 칸델라 알바레스 솔데비야(Candela Álvarez Soldevilla) 백작부인, 바르셀로나의 훌리안 아구트(Julian Agut) 등의 개인 소장품에 포함되어 있습니다. 2012년에는 '원거리에서(From a Distance)' 프로젝트로 최우수 예술 콘셉트 상을 받았으며, 같은 해 동명의 사진 작품집인 《원거리에서》(Eikon Studio)를 출간했습니다. 2014년에는 EU 지원 프로젝트의 도움을 받아 사진 작품집 《에우프라지아나(Eufrazijana)》를, 이어 2018년에는 《체르 마테리나(Ćer materina)》를 출간했습니다. 현재 그는 풀라에서 거주하며 활동하고 있습니다.

Hassan Abdelghani is a fine art photographer and the director of the photographic gallery “Makina” in Pula. To date, he has realized and organized numerous photographic exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. He was born in Osijek in 1965 and grew up in Cairo, lived 20 years in Copenhagen. In 1990, he completed his studies in photography in Copenhagen, where he later founded the private photography school Global Fotoskole in 1998. He has signed numerous artistic projects: he has curated more than 50 exhibitions, served as the artistic director of the photo gallery “Vrata starog grada” in Osijek, and held over 50 solo and group photographic exhibitions all over the world. He is a guest lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Osijek. He has been the head of the Makina Photo Academy since 2015. From 2009 to the present, as the director of Gallery Makina, the gallery has proudly hosted over 200 exhibitions and events. He is a member of HDFD, HDLU Istria, HDLU Osijek, and a member of the European Film Academy. He is the recipient of the City of Pula Charter for his contribution to culture, art, contemporary photography, and pedagogical work. His photographs are part of the collections of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb (“From a Distance”) and private collections, including that of Countess Candela Álvarez Soldevilla from Madrid and Julian Agut from Barcelona. In 2012, he won the award for Best Artistic Concept with the project “From a Distance.” In the same year, he published the photo monograph From a Distance (Eikon Studio). In 2014, he published the photo monograph Eufrazijana with support from an EU-funded project, followed by Ćer materina in 2018. He lives and works in Pula.
