For Rodrigo Núñez Buj, the sea is not a subject to be recorded but a presence in perpetual hesitation. Having spent years contemplating waves and tides along the coast of Llanes, Spain, he draws something beyond the real from the light and shadow the water shapes — from forms that surface for an instant and are gone. Ocean Series gathers these faces of the sea, caught in passing.

Here the wave is not merely a natural phenomenon but a language of feeling. Spray bursting against the cliffs, a path of water set alight by the rising sun, a surface dissolving into fog until it loses all shape — the artist renders these not as documentary description but in the idiom of abstraction and impressionism. It is no accident that his photographs often read like paintings. In the movement of light and water he sees the landscape before the landscape, the form before it is given a name.
