경관의 이해_Plastic Island

 경관이란, 일상적으로 바라볼 수 있는 문화에 의해 변화된 자연적인 풍경을 말하는데 그 속에 인간의 지각으로 생성된 공간인 동시에 문화⸳지리학적인 요소에 의해 지표가 되어 변형된 하나의 매개체로서 그 경관이 지니고 있는 메시지로 전해진다.

끊임없이 찾게 되는 좋은 장소에는 그 어떠한 요소를 포함하고 있든 간에 모두 귀중한 이미지이고 기록이다. ‘Plastic Island’에서는 편안함과 즐거움을 주는 풍경이 아닌, 작가의 눈에 비친 버려진 것들에 대한 시선으로 이끌어 역설적으로 인간의 순수함으로 회귀할 수 있는 개인의 휴식으로 안내한다. 해안가 일대를 꾸준히 읽고 기록한 이미지는 경관의 변천을 파악하는데 귀중한 자료이자 곧 사진에서 다양한 텍스트로 토해낼 수 있고 이해할 수 있는 중요한 수단이 된다.

Understanding the Landscape: Plastic Island (Yang Hye-jung)

A landscape refers to a natural scenery transformed by the culture we perceive in our daily lives. It is a space created through human perception and, at the same time, a medium modified by cultural and geographical elements that serves as a milestone, conveying its own inherent message.

In any place we constantly seek out, regardless of the elements it contains, the view itself becomes a precious image and record. In Plastic Island, rather than presenting a landscape that offers comfort and pleasure, the artist guides the audience through her gaze toward discarded objects. Paradoxically, this directs the viewer to a personal place of rest where one can return to human purity. The images, born from consistently reading and documenting the coastal area, serve as valuable data for understanding the evolution of the landscape. Soon, they become an important means through which photography can evoke and interpret a multitude of texts.
