The Flight of the Bee

The Baiyi people are a branch of the Yi ethnic group, primarily residing in their ancestral homeland of Heqing, Yunnan. They are a hardworking people—much like bees. The Baiyi are also a migratory group; according to their origin myth, they once transformed into bees and flew across the Jinsha River to settle in the Kua’e Mountains.

During the off-season from farming, the Baiyi climb into the mountains to gather fire grass. They then return to their wooden homes to weave cloth and make clothing. When the women wear garments they have handcrafted, it is as if they themselves have become diligent bees.

On ethnic festival days, we dance the migration dances from our origin myths, collectively retracing the formation of our cultural identity through history.

As a people without a written language, the Baiyi have preserved their origin myths and cultural codes within everyday practices—clothing, labor, objects, dance, music, and ritual. As long as the Baiyi continue to live according to their traditional way of life, their ancestral memory will be preserved, and the invaluable spirit of their forebears will live on, forever watching over the Kua’e Mountains and the Baiyi people.

蜜蜂飞翔

白依人是彝族的一个支系，分布在故乡云南鹤庆。白依人是一个勤劳的民族，就像蜜蜂一样。白依人也是一个迁徙的民族，族源神话里，族人化身为蜜蜂飞越金沙江，来到夸萼山定居下来。农闲时节，白依人上山寻找火草，回到木垛房里织成布，做成衣服。女人们穿上自己亲手做的衣服，仿佛都化身为了勤劳的蜜蜂。民族节日里，我们一起跳起族源神话中迁徙的舞蹈，一起回溯族群在历史长河中逐渐形成的民族文化。

作为一个无文字族群，白依人的族源神话、文化密码，都深藏在白依人的日常服饰、劳作、物件、舞蹈、音乐、仪式里，只要白依人延续传统的生产生活方式，族群历史记忆将被永远保存，祖先可贵的精神就会一直在白依人身上不断传承，祖先就会一直护佑夸萼山、一直护佑着白依人。

벌의 비행

바이족(白依人)은 윈난성 허칭(鹤庆) 지역에 분포한 이족(彝族)의 한 지파이다. 바이족은 부지런한 민족으로, 마치 꿀벌과 같다. 또한 바이족은 이동과 이주를 반복해온 민족인데, 그들의 민족 기원 신화에서는 사람들이 꿀벌로 변해 진사강(金沙江)을 넘어 콰어산(夸萼山)에 정착했다고 전해진다.

농한기에는 바이족 사람들이 산에 올라 불쏘시개 풀을 찾고, 집으로 돌아와 나무 더미 방에서 옷감을 짜서 옷을 만든다. 여성들은 자신이 직접 만든 옷을 입으면 마치 부지런한 꿀벌로 변신한 듯하다. 민족 축제 때에는 모두가 함께 민족 기원 신화 속 이주를 표현한 춤을 추며, 긴 역사 속에 형성된 민족문화를 되돌아본다.

문자가 없는 민족인 바이족의 기원 신화와 문화 코드는 그들의 일상복, 노동, 생활용품, 춤, 음악, 의식 등에 깊이 담겨 있다. 바이족이 전통적인 생산과 생활 방식을 계속 이어갈수록, 민족의 역사적 기억은 영원히 보존될 것이며, 조상의 소중한 정신은 끊임없이 전승되어 콰어산과 바이족 모두를 조상들이 계속 지켜줄 것이다.
